In honor of the new year and the launch of my blog, I am excited to share a four part video series: Welcoming 2015 With Intention! The first part focuses on reflection. In this video, I share three ways I like to reflect in written form.
MAPPING YOUR YEAR
Divide your journal pages in a way that makes sense to you. Then, free write memories from the past year.
To the right, you can see an example of how you might organize your thoughts.
Below, you can see one of my reflection maps. This one has an extra component! It's from a year that I lived in Germany and I couldn't fit all of my memories into the section I allotted for summer. So, I made an additional pull-out tab to accommodate all of my thoughts! Reading through this brings me so much joy - now 5 years later!
(I blurred out the picture of the full pages. Hopefully you can still get the essence of my creative reflective process without being too in my business. Ha ha. . . .mostly for the consideration of friends mentioned.)
GRATITUDE JOURNAL
As I describe in the video, for this reflection, you can divide your page in to four sections: thanks, highs, lows, and help/questions.
You can also do this after a day or week for a more detailed reflection.
LETTER TO YOURSELF
My absolute favorite thing! To the left you can see highlights from a letter that I wrote to myself during grad school.
I often have students do this during the first week of classes and then hand them back at the end of the semester. I also take the opportunity to write one as well! That's what this was from.
Also, yes - sometimes I refer to myself with my full name when I talk or write to myself. And, yes - it was really important to me that President Obama was reelected.
Do any of you enjoy journaling? What are some of your favorite ways to reflect? Share in the comments below!
Stay tuned for the additional parts of the Welcoming 2015 With Intention series coming your way throughout the week. Upcoming topics include holistic health, goal setting, and embracing self love in 2015!
